The Together North Jersey Institute and the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) are co-sponsoring a series of workshops to explore the opportunities for creating vibrant transit hubs in Northern New Jersey.

For the purpose of this work a transit hub is an area surrounding a transit station – bus, rail, light rail, or ferry – which contains diverse land use, a variety of activities, and multi-modal transportation connections that are fully integrated with the transit station. The hub creates a vibrant neighborhood that benefits from the access from the train station at its core.  Creating a successful hub takes extensive thought about the transit station and the community that surrounds it.

Although every community is unique, the workshops will attempt to follow a process that can be used throughout New Jersey – a process will build upon a collaboration and encourage the community’s stakeholders to come together to define the hub and its characteristics.

The workshop is open to those who want to learn more about the elements of a strong transit hub, the opportunities that it can bring to the community, and the process to create it.
