SUMMARY:TNJ Institute: Pedestrian Safety Workshop
DESCRIPTION:What steps can communities take to ensure equal access and safety for all roadway users – pedestrians\, bicyclists\, motorists\, buses and trucks? Together North Jersey (TNJ)\, a broad public partnership\, led a large-scale planning process that asked people throughout the region how to improve their communities. That led to strategies for improving pedestrian safety appearing throughout the plan’s Focus Areas and community goals related to the environment\, the economy\, open space\, community development and redevelopment\, public health and public safety. This workshop will walk participants through a series of strategies aimed at putting the TNJ Plan into action to create safe and vibrant places for pedestrians. It will explore where pedestrian-related improvements should be prioritized\, what makes a place more pedestrian friendly\, how to slow traffic\, and how infrastructure design standards can help accomplish these goals. The workshop will also highlight programs that communities can use to plan\, build and even help pay for pedestrian safety improvements. \nWORKSHOP PROGRAM \n\n8:30 to 9:00             Registration\n9:00 to 9:10             Welcome – Zenobia Fields\, NJTPA\n9:10 to 9:25 Toward Zero Deaths – Pam Fischer\, Pam Fischer Consulting\n9:25 to 10:30             Creating Better Projects for Pedestrians\n\nThe Impact of Crime on Walking in Low-Income and Minority Communities – Charles Brown – Alan M.
