SUMMARY:TNJ Institute: FHWA Road Diet Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Training materials are now available! \nThe participant handbook is available for download. \nAdditionally\, these videos and resources are available from the FHWA website: \n\nNew Jersey Road Diet video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lm_zrAfRj20\nFHWA-produced Road Diet video:\n\n·         Long version – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3ucpaCigig \n·         Short version – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_xTUCPWG78 \nPlease check out FHWA’s Road Diet website – lots of resources\, plus more http://safety.fhwa.dot.gov/road_diets/ \n  \nNJTPA and Together North Jersey are pleased to partner with FHWA to offer a one-day workshop that explores how Road Diets can improve safety\, operations\, and livability in communities. \nWhat is a Road Diet? Four-lane undivided roadways often experience a large number of crashes–especially between high-speed through traffic\, left-turning vehicles\, and other road users. One treatment for addressing this safety concern is a Road Diet\, which typically involves converting an existing four-lane segment to three lanes: a through lane in each direction and a center two-way left-turn lane (TWLTL). \nWho should attend? \n\n   Transportation Engineers and Planners\n   Pedestrian & Bicycle and Safe Routes to School Coordinators\n   Local Police\, Fire\, EMS and Transit\n   Community Leaders\n\nWhat will you learn? \n\n   Learn about the different types of Road Diets and why they work.\n   Identify roads that are good candidates for Road Diets.\n   Learn what segment and intersection design elements are affected by a Road Diet.\n   Practice reallocating street space for other uses\, including non-motorized user needs.
