SUMMARY:TNJ Institute: Neighborhood Empowerment Models
DESCRIPTION:Neighborhood Empower Models: Crime Prevention and Beyond \nStrategies and opportunities for neighborhood improvements are available through a variety of programs and formats. But it takes high quality community engagement and leadership to put strategies into action and create vibrant places where people want to live\, work and visit.  Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) is a community problem-solving approach that brings together law enforcement\, city planners\, residents and local stakeholders to assess a neighborhood’s vulnerabilities to crime and collaboratively develop meaningful solutions. Community members can become leaders by self-organizing within a multi-disciplinary team to work ahead of or in tandem with local government rather than waiting for government-led projects. Good lighting and community-driven design and maintenance of public spaces are just a couple examples of how communities can help deter crime and make members of the community feel safer. \nThis workshop will go beyond training participants in crime prevention concepts.
