In addition to the $5M HUD Sustainable Communities Regional Planning Grant, Together North Jersey is leveraging an additional $5M in local matching funds from NJ TRANSIT and the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority, among other parties. Almost half of these funds are being invested at the local level to build capacity and advance local priorities. Together North Jersey has already or will soon award 40 local project grants:

  • 18 Local Demonstration Project grants of technical assistance will impact communities in all thirteen counties in the Together North Jersey planning region, including 38 municipalities directly involved as partner jurisdictions and another 205 that are likely to benefit indirectly from funded planning and implementation studies.
  • 14 Local Government Capacity Grants to the five cities and 10 of the 12 counties participating on the Together North Jersey Steering Committee. These projects combined cover more than 230 municipalities in the region.
  • NGO Micro-Grants to community based organizations working in their local communities, often with traditionally underrepresented and disadvantaged populations.

These local investments are creating “on-the-ground” success stories and models for local planning and implementation that will guide the way for similar efforts as Together North Jersey moves from planning to implementation in the years ahead.   To learn about TNJ’s local planning initiatives explore the interactive map below.
