The Discovery Phase of the RPSD planning process involved a series of public workshops and other community engagement events where the goal was to facilitate discussion around two key questions: “Where are we now? Where are we headed?”

During these events the public was informed about the baseline conditions of the region in terms of demographics (population, jobs, housing, etc.), access and mobility, and other environmental conditions.

The events typically included an overview of Together North Jersey, a “Listen and Learn” group discussion, and interactive polling related to our shared values, regional planning goals, and key issues facing the region.

The initial group of workshops were hosted by local city and county governments. An additional round of workshops were held by our partner NGOs, along with a series of “going to them” initiatives at area malls, festivals and other large gatherings using pop-up kiosks.

City and County Outreach

The first series of workshops were hosted by our city and county government partners.

We have prepared a slideshow showcasing the key findings of these series of workshops.

Individual reports for each workshop can be downloaded below. (PDF format).

During the "Listen and Learn" section of the workshop, participants talk about what they like and would want to change about their communities.
